TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS
These instructions for a subcutaneous infusion are from my Technical Writing class. Our instructions needed to demonstrate an awareness of the audience, logical structure, and appropriate diction. My instructions for subcutaneous infusions using a Freedom 60® pump demonstrate my interest in medical technology. They also show my ability to use logical formatting and simple, concise language to explain a new task while taking into account the legal need for safety guidelines. In science or technical writing, knowledge of the audience and appropriate language are especially important.

CONSENT FORM ANALYSIS
This sample is from my Ethics for Science and Technical Communication class. I chose the project option that required a critical analysis of an informed consent form for scientific research on human subjects because I’m interested in medical research. I used the consent form for a study I was part of at the National Institute of Health, which allowed me to discuss not only the text but also the way it was presented to patients by the medical investigator. This paper shows my understanding of the Common Rule and my ability to focus on the details and check for consistency. For this project, I also analyzed the appropriateness of the scientific language and content for a general audience. I found one inconsistency that I brought up to the medical investigator, and he decided to include my suggestion the next time he updated the form.

ARTICLE ADAPTATION
This adaptation of a scientific article is from my Science Writing class. We had to adapt part of a journal article to an audience of our choice and explain our decisions in a separate analysis. My adaptation demonstrates my interest in cancer research and my ability to translate complicated scientific content into something understandable to a more general audience. As a science writer, it is important that I am able to understand both complex content and the needs of a different audience. This sample uses simple, concise language to clearly explain this breakthrough treatment for leukemia.

USABILITY TEST
This sample is from my Message Design and Evaluation class. With a partner, I needed to design and conduct a usability test of a website. My partner and I chose the website of a local pizza place, and conducted the test on five Drexel students. This paper is a great example of collaborative writing. It can be tough to merge multiple voices and writing styles, but we created one seamless paper. This project analyzed the text and the design, demonstrating knowledge of document and web design principles. Additionally, this assignment is a testament to our ability to design a usability test, gather data, and present our findings. As a science or technical writer, I know many of my documents, such as instructions or manuals, may undergo usability testing.

ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY
This annotated bibliography is from Reading and Research in Communication. The assignment needed to focus on a topic in communication research, so I found sources related to social support for cancer patients. My annotated bibliography and synthesis demonstrate my ability to find and evaluate sources and conduct in-depth research. This topic choice reflects my interest in health communication, specifically focused on cancer.
